¡Hola, La ola del lago families! I invite you all to start the Kindergarten Spanish immersion journey with one simple word: “hola.” Now let’s say it together “oh-law.” Now everyone has had a first official lesson in Spanish immersion Kindergarten! I could not be more excited to be where I am at! My first few months as the new administrator of Edgewood School, and in the case of this letter, La ola del lago Spanish immersion, could not have been more positive. Everyone I have met has been extremely positive and welcoming. I am thrilled about the wonderful opportunities that lie ahead for our students, teachers, staff, and families in the upcoming Prior Lake – Savage Area Schools is a great place to be a student and school stakeholder. Our four Spanish immersion Kindergarten teachers are some of the most dedicated, student-centered educators you will ever meet. Molly Cook, Charissa Pedro, Kara Peterson, and Jillian Sullivan can not wait to welcome you and your child into their classrooms in just a few short weeks. They also have a great passion for sharing the Spanish language, which your child will indefinitely pick up quickly. Please read this email closely for a few important announcements: Identity: You may have heard the new name for our Spanish immersion school the school board approved on July 14, La ola del lago. (The Wave of the Lake). The name was selected for a few reasons: consistency in branding and marketing; easy to pronounce for non-Spanish speakers; and it symbolizes the natural resources of our community and district’s commitment to Environmental Education. Teacher assignment letters: You will receive your child’s teacher assignment, along with a welcome letter from Edgewood School, during the week of August 25. This timeline is consistent across all ISD719 elementary schools. Tuesday, September 9: In your welcome letter, you will be assigned a time for Tuesday, September 9 for Kindergarten Orientation: Meet the Teacher. Both parents and students are encouraged to attend. Transportation Survey: In order to best help us prepare for the school year, please take 30 seconds to fill out this two question survey. This will help us in planning to see how many students plan on riding the bus or being picked up/dropped off. All results are anonymous. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YVZH5SD Mark your Calendars: Wednesday, September 3 - La ola del lago Kindergarten Family Freeze Pop Social – sponsored by the Edgewood Advisory Council Who: 2014-15 Edgewood Kindergartners and their families Where: Edgewood School – upper level playground When: Wednesday, September 3, 2014 Time: 6:00 -7:00 P.M. My best regards, Richie Kucinski Over the past few weeks I have had several meetings with members of the Edgewood Advisory Council. The advisory council is made up of nearly 20 dedicated members. Each member of the advisory council brings a different lens and skill set to the group. We have parents that have their children in Early Childhood Family Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Circle of Friends Preschool, La ola del lago Spanish immersion, and birth to three family education. Edgewood School is very proud and thankful to these council members for committing themselves to making Edgewood a welcoming, student-centered school.
