As we continue to plan for the 2015-16 school year, I would like to highlight one of the many opportunities we will be fortunate to have as a result of having an entire K-1 immersion under the same roof: allowing older students to work with younger students. Even though our oldest LODL students will be in first grade, we will definitely plan on having a buddy classrooms to read stories with, share classroom projects, etc. Both ages of students benefit from these learning experiences. Older students love to play the role of the teacher, as well as be the “language experts.” Students will enjoy reading books, singing songs, and simply helping Kindergarteners with basic Spanish vocabulary.
La ola del lago Kindergarten 2015-16 Enrollment Update: We still have a few seats remaining for Kindergarten at La ola del lago for the 2015-16 school year. Please continue to help us spread the word with neighbors, your child’s sports teams/activities, etc. For more information, please check out the website below or call 952.226.0903.

Our plan will be to have three sections of grade one, and four sections of Kindergarten for the 2015-16.
Amity International Language Intern Update: I am very excited to announce we have confirmed three Amity International Language Interns for the 2015-16 school year:
Amelia Suarez Tatay (Spain), Lucia Martinez Prado (Columbia), and Laura Arias Vargas (Columbia). The next few months will involve quite a bit of details as we continue to work through the visa process, setting up homestays, etc. We have a group of parents working on getting things ready for our interns. Please stay tuned for more information regarding an informational sometime in late April or early May.
Interested in Helping Out with Amity International?: All of the interns will live with house families and work at La ola del lago with our students. Interns are native speakers from Spanish speaking countries. Here are a few of the advantages of having Amity International Interns in our school:
· Brings authentic culture directly to the classroom
· Provides instructional support to La ola del lago students
· Students are exposed to native Speakers, from various cultures around the world, at a very early age
· Serves as a pipeline for future teacher recruitment
· Provides connections for families to be involved hosting international interns
· Allows families the opportunities to connect with interns
· Great collaboration and partnership with La ola del lago parent group
This is a huge partnership with our school community.
We are in the process of forming a task force to help in coordinating many of the logistics of getting our Amity interns to assimilate quickly and comfortably to life here in Prior Lake – Savage. If you are interested in helping in any capacity, please Maleigh Anderson at [email protected].
Although hosting an intern is one of the major areas we will be looking for support, there are many other ways. Here are a few examples:
· Being a chauffeur for the interns to go to weekly Target runs
· Helping interns set up bank accounts
· Helping find cell phone services
· Offering to have them over for dinner
· Volunteering to take them on an outing or excursion
· Being a “aunt” or “uncle” – kind of like a second house family
· Helping find winter gear
· Looking for community donations (health club memberships, etc.)
· Helping with airport pick/up drop off
· Communication before their arrival
· Marketing and public relations for current LODL families, and incoming K families
